Certificate of Participation Each registered student who participates in the Western New York Science Congress will receive a Certificate of Participation. Additional awards are listed below.
Lecture Demonstrations
Senior Division (Grades 10-12) school and non-school categories Medallions and Monetary Awards:* Gold: $150.00, Silver $100.00, Bronze: $50.00
Intermediate Division (Grades 7-9) Medallions: Gold, Silver, Bronze Possible Gift Certificates for Gold Medallion Awardees**
Novice Division Grades 5-6 (Projects Only) Medallions: Gold, Silver, Bronze Possible Gift Certificates for Gold Medallion Awardees**
Honorable Mention Ribbons Ribbons are presented within each group at the recommendation of the Judges.
*Awards are presented within each group on the recommendation of the Judges. Team members split the monetary award.
** Awards are presented within each group on the recommendation of the Judges. Each Intermediate and Novice Gold Medallion recipient may also receive gift certificates in addition to their other awards dependent upon gift certificate availability. Lecture Demonstration awardees are not eligible to receive gift certificates.
American Chestnut Award Grades eligible: 5 to 12 Award Type: Certificate Description: Awarded for any Project or Lecture Demonstration focusing on the American Chestnut Tree.
Environmental Award Grades eligible: 5 to 12 Award Type: Certificate Description: Awards are given for Projects and Lectures which involve the environment, including environmental studies, projects, and solutions to problems with qualitative and/or quantitative analysis.
Navy/Marine Corps Distinguished Achievement Award Grades eligible: 9 to 12. Students must be citizens of the United States or permanent residents to be considered for the award. Award Type: Certificate and mail-in award certificate worth $50.00 is awarded to the top Gold Medallion recipients based on the number of 9th through 12th grade student participants. Awardees are invited to enter their Lecture/Project at the national level. Description: Eligibility is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Freshman, sophomore, and junior gold medallion recipients are encouraged to apply for and participate in the JSHS (Junior Science and Humanities Symposia) NO TEAMS are allowed. Judging is normally independent of the Congress and usually conducted by representatives of the Navy/Marvine Corps from our local area when available.
Grades eligible: 6 to 8. Students must be citizens of the United States or permanent residents to be considered for the award. Award Type: Certificate is awarded to the top Gold Medallion recipients based on the number of 6th through 8th grade student participants. Description:NO TEAMS are allowed. Judging is normally independent of the Congress and usually conducted by representatives of the Navy/Marine Corps from our local area when available.
