1. Western New York Science Congress State Congress Representatives Judges and the Board of Directors will review the top Lecture Demonstration medal winners and, while not always the rule, will select up to three (3) representatives from the High School level (grades 9 to 12) and up to three (3) representatives from the Middle School level (grades 6 to 8) to compete in the State Congress. The numbers that may attend are based on number of students attending the Western Congress. Should there be more candidates than representative positions, selection will begin with High School awardees and then Middle School awardees. Selection begins with Gold, Silver, then Bronze.
Students who are selected as representatives of the Western Section should be prepared for and are expected to attend the States Congress. Representatives are also required to attend the Awards Dinner at the State Congress.
Students from other sections who may compete in the Western Congress, will be entered under the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) section their school is located in. The Western Section covers Erie and Wyoming Counties. The Western Congress includes students from the Northwestern and Southwestern sections of STANYS. Representatives will receive a packet of information from the Congress Chair. The 2012 State Science Congress will be held at the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York on (tbd). Entrants, please mark your calendars to keep this weekend open. Representatives will be given a packet to fill out when their names are announced at the Western New York Congress awards ceremony on April 28, 2012. The chair will meet with students immediately after the Congress awards ceremony to explain the form. Teachers are requested to be present for the explanation.

1. STANYS Western Section Awards Dinner (Location to be announced)
The regional section of STANYS is the Western Section. Each year in May, the Western Section presents an awards dinner to honor local individuals for their dedication in science education. Included are local science teachers who have been selected for their dedication to teaching science.
The Congress representatives chosen to represent the Western New York region are required to attend this dinner.
Each representative, will be introduced by the Western Congress representative, usually the chair, and expected to give a short summary of their individual work. We are asking that the teachers or sponsors of these students also attend the awards dinner to be recognized for their efforts and the time they gave to work with these students.
3. Funding and Expenses The State Congress will provide housing and accommodations for the student and one chaperone.
The Western New York Science Congress Inc. will:
A. pay the Entry fee for representative to the State Congress. It is understood that if the fee is paid and the student representative does not attend, the student shall reimburse the Western New York Science Congress, Inc. the cost of the entry fee.
B. give each student an expense voucher for up to $50.00 dollars to cover small expenses such as thruway tolls, parking fees, supplies for the presentation, etc. Please remember, the Congress does not pay tax, and the tax should be subtracted from the receipts when filling out the total voucher amount.
The voucher will be post marked by July 31st, with receipts attached. No voucher after July 31st will be accepted. Send vouchers to:
